Northumbrian electro-folk artist Frankie Archer has released her latest single 'Death and The Maiden', offering another glimpse into her debut album 'The Dance Of Death', due 5th June via prrr of the bear.
Inspired by an early 20th-century retelling of the traditional tale, the track follows a young woman attempting to negotiate with death, only to confront its inevitability. Archer reimagines the story through a bold sonic lens, beginning with sparse folk elements before expanding into a dense, unpredictable arrangement.
Blending traditional instrumentation with modern production, the track features layered vocals, heavy percussion and processed fiddle lines, alongside her first recorded guitar performance. The result is a striking fusion of folklore and forward-thinking sound design.
Co-produced with Guy Massey, the upcoming album reworks historic English ballads into immersive, contemporary compositions.
