What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Piano and sometimes I wish I would’ve locked in and took it more seriously as a kid.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I grew up loving r&b, pop, hiphop, and gospel. I was obsessed with Brandy. Still am. She’s incredible.

What was the first album you remember owning?

My mom got the following 3 albums for me during one random trip to the mall: Fugees - The Score, 112 - Only You (single), Busta Rhymes - When Disaster Strikes.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

“Like A Star” by Corrine Bailey Rae. Everything about that song is perfect. It’s so emotionally dense and fragile at the same time.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Not really. I have a lot of daily routines that naturally contribute to my creative process. I play crosswords and read everyday, so that keeps me inspired on the lyrical side. Production/composing ideas tend to come to me randomly and I just let it flow.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

My top 3 artists the last couple of weeks are Remi Wolf, Tinashe, and AZ Chike.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Harry Styles

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I love sitting with an idea and figuring out how to bring it to life. The trial and error, connect the dots, part of the journey is the best.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Living with the regret of certain missteps and trying to be aware of certain opportunities in the moment.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Creating art and then sharing it with the world is a great success. All the other stuff is extra.
