Andrew WK - 'You're Not Alone'

7/10

Sometimes it seems hard to imagine that Andrew WK ever got away from the 'Party Hard' days of his debut full-length back in 2001. But after a number of years releasing smaller, less commercially successful albums in the years that passed, the frontman took an almost decade long sabbatical before returning with his fifth studio album 'You're Not Alone', a record that shows that this party-rocker has managed to grow out of his pigeonholed expectations.

While Andrew WK had become almost an overblown satire of himself, thanks to his love of partying and everything it involves, 'You're Not Alone' is a much more uplifting release that doesn't rely on a fast pace to get the energy flowing. With one fist pumping cut after another, the album is most definitely aimed at those that remember him the first time round, who may be older and less carefree but still in need of a boost of motivation from time to time.

With a more anthemic sound and appreciation for keyboard-based rock music, Andrew WK is most definitely this generation's Meatloaf. An over-the-top and intense ride into the mind of one of music's most positive people, scattered with motivational speeches and ball-busting riffs.
