7/10
After spending much of the last couple of years releasing small EPs to grow their ever-loving fanbase, Beach Slang have finally managed to deliver their much-anticipated debut album. The longwindedly titled 'The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us' features some tracks from their previous releases, but on the whole is a brand new collection of tracks to get stuck into.
While only 26 minutes in length, this new record certainly does pack a punch. From the fuzzy guitars to the ferocious drumming, 'The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us' is short, sharp burst of tenacity harking back to the modern punk sounds of bands like Rise Against while fusing with the laid-back bliss of Best Coast. While at the same time making space for the slower tracks in their repertoire, making this album a real light and shade affair throughout.
It is clear that the band wanted to get this album out as quickly as possible. They have become a huge name over the past year and a release like this is just what their fans needed. But they haven't rushed themselves and instead produced an album with huge depth and quality.
