Blind Orbits - 'The Time, The Tide'

8/10

Over the last few years, Coventry-based outfit Blind Orbits have established themselves as one of the best kept secrets on the UK's shoegaze scene. After finding praise and acclaim for their recent appearances on songs with Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest and T-Mo Goodie of Goodie Mob, the band have been busy cultivating and developing a distinctive direction for themselves. And now with buzz building once again, they deliver their long-awaited debut EP 'The Time, The Tide', a release brimming with innovative prowess.

Working alongside producer Krohme for the new offering, this new three-track collection makes for a wonderfully hypnotic introduction to their sound so far. While very much akin to the shoegaze / post-rock aesthetic throughout, 'The Time, The Tide' sees them adopt a far darker and more pensive atmosphere than most. With its broad and tantalising textures layered from beginning to end, the group have not only created a unique avenue in which to pursue, but also leave us thoroughly wanting more by its end.

With so much adventurous spirit packed into this short outing, Blind Orbits are on the cusp of something very special here. Rarely do we get to hear a band with so much emotive passion within their work, but 'The Time, The Tide' feels like the beginning of an extremely enthralling career for them.
