DRINKS - 'Hermits On Holiday'

7/10

After spending much of her career contributing her voice and talent to a number of other artist's work over the years, Cate Le Bon is no stranger to working with others. But now the Welsh frontwoman has teamed up with Tim Presley, better known as White Fence, to deliver their first studio album under the name DRINKS, and although they claim this is not a collaboration but a solo project with "one mouth, one set of lungs, one mind and four legs", it certainly brings out the best of both of them.

While DRINKS do have that raw and spontaneous attitude about them, like this record was almost improvised from start to finish, it is that instant chemistry between the two that make it such an enjoyable listen. The record has this very minimal production to it, allowing them to create brilliantly uncomplicated music that is built simply to draw focus to the pair's unconventional lyrical content and aid the album's laid-back flow.

It is certainly an release with an irregular outlook. With every track almost sounding like an unending loop on broken record, yet at the same time, the album gives off this free-flow perception like you don't know where it is going. Which makes for a very intriguing and exciting listen.
