Erasure - 'World Be Gone'

7/10

With a career that has now lasted more than thirty years, synth-pop duo Erasure have returned once again to deliver their seventeenth studio album 'World Be Gone'. Yet despite the couple's presence on the world stage as an 80s throwback, they have been steadily releasing new music throughout the last four decades, showing their ability to remain fresh and contemporary with every release.

But while 'World Be Gone' still has that same comforting Erasure sound, there is still something versatile within their songwriting. It may have come from a lifetime of pushing themselves to create something new that keeps themselves interested, but the outcome on this new record is extremely crowd-pleasing. Its use of modern production within a very basic use of instrumentation helps not feel like something different but familiar as well, treading a line between intrigue and nostalgia.

Overall, 'World Be Gone' is a wonderful piece of work that shows after all these years, great bands can still churn it out when they need to.
