Getting To Know... brandøn

Emerging electronic artist brandøn is developing a distinctive musical identity through brooding atmospheres, cinematic production and an exploration of the emotional complexities of human experience. Drawing inspiration from witch house and wave-inspired electronic music, his work combines heavy electronic textures with an underlying message of resilience, while his background in acting brings a theatrical dimension to his creative approach.

His latest single 'Darkness' explores the transformative power of difficult experiences, finding hope and personal strength amid isolation and uncertainty. What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

When I was kid, I was always fascinated with drums. I always had good rhythm in my hands, would create beats all the time just using my hands as a percussion. So, as my fascination grew bigger, I eventually bought my own drum set.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I used to love rock n roll. Honestly and truly I liked a lot of genres, had my phases here and there but I would say rock n roll was my go to.

What was the first album you remember owning?

That’s a hard one to answer because I can’t remember exactly the first one I owned. But roughly I would say my favorite one was Guns N Roses “Appetite for destruction”.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

That’s a hard question to answer but, so to speak if I could take credit for a song it definitely would be brothel x vowl - idkwhereimgoing

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I definitely look for good vocal samples. Don’t really need full length acapellas. As soon as I get a good vocal sample I’m all set and start working around it.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’m not really the type of person that limits themselves to just a couple of artists. I can like one specific song, but might not like the rest by the same artist. But to answer the question, my top two have been “brothel” and “vowl” for quite a while now.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Definitely sidewalks and skeletons.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I would say doing what you love. Not a lot of people actually get to do what they love and I find that very sad. I wouldn’t be able to reach my true full potential if I didn’t give my heart and soul to it.

And what is the most frustrating part?

I would say getting your music out there. Just simply making it seen. You can literally have a hit song and get no views at all.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

There are no rules or secret formula in music production. A good song is a good song.
