Nashville psych-rock outfit John Condit & The Comedown emerge with their debut single 'Shooting Star', a slow-burning and emotionally charged introduction to a project rooted in atmosphere, texture, and raw psychedelic intensity. Led by veteran guitarist and songwriter John Condit, the release marks a new chapter for a musician already deeply woven into Nashville’s underground psych scene.
Known for his work as lead guitarist in Lilly Hiatt’s band and as the frontman of long-running psych outfit The Inscape, Condit brings years of experience into this latest venture. Recorded live to analogue 2-inch tape with minimal overdubs, 'Shooting Star' channels the expansive moods of The Verve and the hazy volatility of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, gradually unfolding from delicate textures into towering waves of fuzz and distortion.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
First instrument I fell in love with was definitely the guitar.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
My earliest memories of listening to music are listening to The Rolling Stones, The Animals, and Bob Marley with my dad. We used to have this cassette boombox in our garage and there was always either an Animals or a Rolling Stones tape that lived in there.
What was the first album you remember owning?
It’s tough to say what I got first… It was either The Wallflower’s “Bringing Down the Horse,” or Green Day’s “Nimrod.” I remember specifically asking for those albums when I was a kid first getting into music.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Even the Losers - Tom Petty
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
With my last record “Return to the Center,” I got really into meditation. While I don’t practice as much as I used to during Covid, I still try to use these same tools. There’s something about sitting quietly with yourself and letting the music come through. A lot of times a melody will come out, and maybe a phrase. Then comes the fun part of trying to put the puzzle together musically and figure out what you’re talking about.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I bounce around a lot, but recently… Shiner, Ulrika Spacek, Starflyer 59, Mt. Mountain, Garrett T. Capps, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, CAN.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Radiohead
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
When a song I wrote really reaches someone. It’s the biggest reward when I can give someone that gift.
And what is the most frustrating part?
In this day and age, I’d have to say the hustle culture of everything. A lot of times it feels like you can’t just be a musician anymore.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself.
