Getting To Know... Lilly Nagy

German singer and artist Lilly Nagy is emerging with a vision that extends far beyond conventional pop music. With her new single 'Sex Sold Politics', she blends contemporary production with tribal rhythms, healing frequencies, and deeply personal storytelling to create a sound that feels both empowering and transformative.

Rooted in themes of feminine strength, emotional awareness, and self-acceptance, the track explores the idea that softness and vulnerability can be sources of power rather than weakness. Drawing on her experiences as both a musician and former model, Lilly has developed a distinctive artistic identity that combines immersive sonic landscapes with a strong visual and emotional sensibility.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I fell in love with playing the Piano when I was really young.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I’m so lucky that I grew up listening to artists, because of my parents, that I still love today. My all time favorite as a child and still now is ABBA. I think their music truly is timeless and feelgood music.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I don’t think it was my first, but the one I used to listen to the most was Amy Winehouse, Back to black.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

The Wind, by Cat Stevens

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Yes! Many! I usually do a meditation and feel for myself which part of mind and body I want to stimulate with a song. I love to connect with nature before I go to the studio, ground myself and bring that feeling of nature's power into my songs.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

My all time favorites are Cat Stevens, Lana Del Rey and ABBA.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Billie Eilish

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The healing aspect is on both me and the crowd. Music brings people together and creates a language without needing to understand it. I love that.

And what is the most frustrating part?

There is a quote from Beckett saying: “To be an artist is to fail, as no other dare fail.” All I have to say is that I can relate.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

To not try and copy anyone.
