Kitchen Lover’s final offering ahead of explosive debut

Brighton punk risers Kitchen Lover may have built their reputation on quirky playfulness, but on 'There Goes My Brains', they channel pure desperation into a sub-two-minute garage rock fizzer that hits like a caffeine crash.

The new single, arriving August 7th ahead of their debut album 'The Circus Sideshow Dream' (September 19th), finds the band at their most visceral. Produced by Erik Miles – whose work with SOFT PLAY, Baby Dave, and Kate Nash has established him as a go-to for artists who prize authenticity over polish – the track marries Queens Of The Stone Age's grungy, fuzzy guitar tones with the loose urgency of classic 70s punk.

What emerges is Kitchen Lover's aesthetic distilled to its essence: driving, intense, and unapologetically raw. The song's short runtime works in its favor, delivering maximum impact without overstaying its welcome – a punk rock sugar rush that leaves you wanting more.

Lyrically, the band aren't pulling punches either. "Cut from the same cloth as the man with the darkest heart, this boy can't comprehend why his part time-lover won't comply with his late night booty calls," they explain. "The type we've all been victim of and probably perpetrator of too. The desperate little boy, completely unaware of his feelings, can only scream in despair and anger as his mind overloads with insecurity."

It's an unflinchingly honest portrayal of modern romantic dysfunction, delivered with the kind of self-awareness that elevates Kitchen Lover above typical garage punk fare. The band's ability to find humor and humanity in uncomfortable truths has become their calling card, and 'There Goes My Brains' represents that approach at its most focused.

The upcoming album promises to expand on these themes, with Miles not only producing but contributing bass, organ, keys, and guitar throughout the record. After a breakout year that saw Kitchen Lover play nearly 50 shows across the UK, sell out prestigious venues, and open for acts like Getdown Services and Frankie And The Witch Fingers, 'The Circus Sideshow Dream' arrives with considerable momentum behind it.

If 'There Goes My Brains' is any indication, Kitchen Lover have found the sweet spot between garage rock grit and punk urgency – and they're not afraid to get uncomfortably real in the process.
