Mercury Prize 2017 shortlist unveiled

Every year, the Mercury Prize aims to celebrate the very best in British music, and looking at this year's nominations it is clear that we have already had one hell of a year for new music.

As well as expected nominations for the likes of Ed Sheeran, The xx and alt-J, Stormzy has been given the token grime nod on the list, while debut albums from The Big Moon, Loyle Carner, Blossoms and Sampha also make a glowing impression.

The Mercury Prize ceremony will take place on the 14th September at London's Hammersmith Apollo, with Lianne La Havas, Marcus Mumford, Jessie Ware and Radio 1’s Clara Amfo on the judging panel. Check out the full list of nominees below.
