Of Montreal - 'Innocence Reaches'

7/10

Since the late 90s, US psych-prog outfit Of Montreal have been one of the most consistent and varied groups in modern music. Delivering a mix of nostalgic influences and a progressive direction on every release, the band return to deliver an impressive fourteenth studio album 'Innocence Reaches', a record that proves that even after almost twenty years, it is still possible to have a tone of originality about you.

While it may not be their most impressive record to date, 'Innocence Reaches' still manages to hold enough interest and diversity to keep it engaging. With a clear Bowie-esque focus this time around, the band have managed to create an album that impresses as well as it engrosses.

This disco, funk, rock, neo pop hybrid may not be close to what fans expect from them, but it certainly shows a great level of intrigue throughout. And considering the vast amount of music they have put out in the last two decades, they still know how to pull it out of the bag.
