Two Door Cinema Club - 'False Alarm'

7/10

When Two Door Cinema Club released their heavily-praised debut album 'Tourist History' back in 2010, there was no denying its impact on the indie-pop scene. With ferocious energy and catchy hooks running throughout, the release was met as a breath of fresh air to a scene that was starting to falter under its own weight. Since then though, the trio have started to explore more anthemic and experimental angles, moving away from their radio-friendly approach to deliver something with more brass to its name. But since 2016's 'Gameshow' was greeted with little to no fanfare, the group have returned to their formative sound on 'False Alarm', a release that sees them bring more fun back into their sound.

While it may not have the instant impact of their earlier work, 'False Alarm' sees a far more seasoned and matured outfit at the helm. While still filled with their usual glittery production and euphoric angles, this new collection looks to approach their sound as a mixture of what they have achieved so far. Taking the catchy elements of their debut and blending it with their more adventurous intentions, we are treated to a release that looks to be as upbeat and enjoyable as possible, but not find itself slip into that cheesy or commercially over-produced focus that many other acts end up going down.

In all, 'False Alarm' looks to be Two Door Cinema Club's freshest sounding record in years. With an obviously more rejuvenated band still looking to find new ways to improve themselves, we hear a band more comfortable than ever delivering a stellar return that still manages to pack a punch when it wants to.
