We Are Scientists - 'Huffy'

7/10

Ever since they first arrived with their breakthrough debut album 'With Love And Squalor' in 2006, We Are Scientists have remained one of the most beloved indie-rock outfits ever since. Despite never reaching the heady heights of international praise that initial record brought them again, they have remained a consistent staple of the scene these last fifteen years, churning out a vibrant array of anthems along the way. And with three years passing since their last effort 'Megaplex', they now deliver their seventh studio album 'Huffy', a record brimming with excitable energy.

For many artists that have found themselves in a similar situation, the bright and euphoric intensity from those early years has extinguished. But for We Are Scientists it seems like they have never let that special spark die as this new release once again delivers some truly powerful moments. While still very much absorbing the same musical vein they have always tapped into, their newest collection manages to find a variety of new and adventurous ways to continue their chosen direction, regularly knocking out bold and dynamic hooks that will keep your head nodding throughout.

It happens very rarely but We Are Scientists are proving that you can stay focused to your formative sound and still remain creatively enjoyable nearly two decades on. 'Huffy' sits as a fun and explorative work that rarely falters, and continues their reputation for bright and uplifting indie-rock belters.
