Baby Queen - 'The Yearbook'

7/10

Over the last few months, emerging artist Baby Queen has been slowly drip-feeding us new material, gradually building up her reputation as one of the more exciting names to be appearing on the alt-pop scene of late. With a smorgasbord of bold and brave ideas rattled off throughout the year, she has decided to bring all of these adventurous intentions together to form a new mixtape called 'The Yearbook', an almost retrospective look of the artist she has been so far and the one she is working to become in the future.

Throughout this new offering we are treated to a hearty blend of bright and euphoric pop numbers, interspersed with the odd spoken word narration. This idea behind 'The Yearbook' is to create this exposed and honest representation of herself, adding context to the journey that has brought her this far and presenting her truest identity. The result is this heady mix of rich and vibrant cuts that prove she is becoming a firm addition to the fledgling scene, pushing boundaries whenever she gets the chance and knocking out the odd radio-friendly ditties from start to finish.

Baby Queen may not be the household name she deserves to be, but this new effort shows incredible promise for her future. Brimming with potential and catchy anthems, 'The Yearbook' is a a fresh and exciting introduction from a name we know is just warming up at this stage.
