Getting To Know... Emerald Radio

After establishing themselves with a string of cover releases on their YouTube channel this past year, UK-based duo Emerald Radio recently delivered their anthemic new single 'Crystal Girls And Country Boys'.

Lifted from their newly unveiled debut EP 'Outdated Slang', which is available to stream now, 'Crystal Girls And Country Boys' makes for a wonderfully bright and infectious listen. With its pulsing pop-punk energy perfectly heightening their vibrant vocals throughout, they are certainly cementing themselves as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with Cisco from the band to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Acoustic guitar

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

As a kid stuff like the Beatles, Elvis, James Blunt, moving on to things like Daft Punk and David Guetta sort of songs.

What was the first album you remember owning?

All the lost souls by James Blunt.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Not much comes to mind, I don’t usually get those sort of reactions to songs.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Usually if I had an experience, whether it be good or bad I just write down the core subject and the main talking points and then just go from there.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

It really depends as I let youtube music pick for me but looking through my recent history I enjoy replaying bands like Kowloon, Parcels and Unknown mortal orchestra.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Gorrilaz, they are what I aspire to be and would be absolutely thrilled if that ever happened.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Honestly hearing people who I haven’t met before and friends who i wouldn’t expect to just come up to me and compliment the songs themselves, very satisfying.

And what is the most frustrating part?

There have been moments where a song I have done vocals for gets received poorly mainly due to other factors that are not in my control like mixing and ect or being forced to sing it in a certain way I’m not comfortable with.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Hard to say over the past 5 years I've learnt a lot of things, mostly to only sing what is within my range, trying not to force something to work. Among other things!
