Getting To Know... Mosiah Levi

After spending the last year releasing a broad and textured array of dream-pop offerings, emerging singer and songwriter Mosiah Levi now returns with his latest laid-back groove 'Headspace'.

Lifted from his forthcoming new EP, also called 'Headspace', this new delight makes for an incredibly rich and easygoing listen. Taking his cues from the likes of Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei, this smooth and soulful gem will melt all the stress from your body from start to finish.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Guitar, particularly the way John Mayer plays it. By the time I discovered him I’d been listening to guitar based/led music for years, but nothing really spoke to me like the way his playing did, and still does.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

I was really into indie bands, The Wombats, The Vaccines, Arctic Monkeys, y’no real cool guy bands. Then I discovered Nao at a festival and couldn’t not dance to it. And so led my journey out of loud guitar bands.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Jack Johnson - In between dreams, cracking album, I stand by 8 y/o Jo’s choices. What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself? John Mayer Stop This Train, gets me in my feels without fail every single time, jheez.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Sit at my desk, with the intention of writing something, and watch something on YouTube. Either Dream or How Ridiculous.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’m really into Yussuf (formerly Cat Stevens), Adele, new SG Lewis, Loyle Carner and ABBA. If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be? Mac Demarco? I feel like it’d be chill as heck and then maybe we could be best friends.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Writing songs I’m real proud of and stand by. I had a message a while ago saying how they associate one of my songs with their boyfriend and it was really cute hearing how much the song meant to them both. Just the fact something I’d written had meant something to someone was crazy.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Not being good enough to play/sing the things I hear in my head.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Just because you like an artist doesn’t mean you need to try and be them. Be yourself.
