Sea Change - 'Breakage'

8/10

Having spent the best part of last year releasing a series of new singles, Oslo-based singer-songwriter Ellen A. W. Sunde aka Sea Change delivers her self-released debut album 'Breakage'. With comparisons to a number of Scandinavian counterparts such as Bjork and Lykke Li, Sea Change has managed to combine the wistful nature of her electronic influences with her own transcendent style to produce a record of great beauty.

From the start, 'Breakage' is a strong blend of atmospheric euphoria and uplifting harmonies that, at times, make her sound like the electronic equivalent of Florence And The Machine. She manages to breathe life and energy into all of her material with her strong yet soothing voice, and the result is a full-length release that not only keeps to a steady rhythm but also intrigues and inspires as it plays.

While still very much an underground name, Sea Change has certainly got the quality and expertise to break through to the big league. It is a crisp and well-produced debut from this young songwriter, who certainly has much more to offer in the years to come.
