Seinabo Sey' 'Pretend'

7/10

After first grabbing our attention last year with her brilliant singles 'Hard Time' and 'Younger', Swedish singer Seinabo Sey has been rather reclusive for much of 2015. Releasing another track, 'Poetic', at the beginning of the year, this new release is the first we have heard from her in a while. Including all of her first singles, 'Pretend' is more of a collection of her work to date than a specially written album and makes for a very eclectic listen.

As she has simply brought together all the previous releases for this new record, there is not much cohesion between each track. But what it lacks in flow and pace, it makes up for in blissful melodies and catchy hooks. The sound of Seinabo Sey has always been a diverse one and this album definitely reflects her own untethered direction that includes subtle ballads, eccentric pop and dancefloor anthems.

It is certainly an interesting listen and definitely hard to describe what she is all about. The best thing is to simply sit back, strap in and enjoy the ride from one of this year's most insatiable new talents.
