Vinyl sales hit record numbers two years running

The number of vinyl records bought in the UK this year has once again been the highest total in this century, already surpassing last year's record breaking total.

In 2013, approximately 800,000 albums were bought on vinyl, the highest there had been since the late 90s, and already this year's total has reached 825,000 with a prediction of reaching 1million before the year is out.

Currently the biggest selling vinyl album is Arctic Monkeys' 'AM', with Mogwai, Bruce Springsteen, Elbow and Warpaint completing the top five.

While the numbers seem impressive, these sales only account for 3% of the total number of physical units shifted, with CDs still the favoured format.
