What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Tyler: For all of us it is pretty much the instruments we play currently in the band. I remember watching Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of White Festival as a kid and remember being mesmerised by his performance.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

Tyler: We’ve always liked a variety of music. Me and Dion have always had a wide variety of music influence growing up taking lots from music originating in the Caribbean and a lot of Irish/Scottish music from our Dad.

James: Not a lot has changed for me! The Smiths and The Beatles were the most important bands to me growing up and they still are now.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Tyler: The first ever record I remember purchasing was Slade Greatest hits.

James: My music taste pretty much came from playing Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 on the PS2 as a kid. For me it was the first time I was exposed to music that I actually enjoyed and after hearing Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, I got my hands on some best of Johnny Cash CD and RINSED the living daylights out of it, particularly that tune, playing it over and over and over. I’ve always been an old man in a young body.

Dion: I’ve never had to buy an album luckily because Tyler always had every album known to mankind.

Luke: Definitely Maybe by Oasis.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Tyler: That changes with the wind. Would probably say Hotel California from an economic point of view…

James: For me it’ll be Sex & Drugs and Rock n Roll by Ian Dury – who wouldn’t want that riff? COME ON!!!

Luke: Can’t stop by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dion: F.E.A.R by Ian Brown or Under the Bridge by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

James: Every song has a different process and lifeline of its own in a way, some are recycled riffs and melodies from years back but other tunes just come and get finished on the spot. If we feel like we’re getting set into a formula we will always make a conscious effort to break out of it. We never want to do the same thing twice.

Tyler: Lyrics are always last though, usually in the studio or in the van ride up – it’s the closest thing I get to a ritual, a ritual of f***ing stress and aggro!!

Dion: Yeah, and a lot of arguing!

Luke: We also seem to try 10000 new things when we’re writing before we decide to go back to the first thing we played…

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Tyler: New favourite artists currently would be The Streets, Red Rum Club, Bee Gees and Supertramp.

James: Nina Simone, T-Rex, Alice Phoebe-Lou, The Blinders and Roxy Music are on repeat for me at the minute. In terms of new acts I’m lovin The Skinner Brothers and Tom Lumley and The Brave Liaison are killin it which is great to see.

Luke: Reverend and The Makers.

Dion: The Chase, The Chase and The Chase…

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

James: Morrissey!!! Although he wouldn’t approve of Luke’s love and obsession with pepperoni… Where Luke goes, so does pepperoni…

Tyler: Would definitely be Oasis for me but as I can’t say them either Liam or Noel.

Dion: Yeah it’s gotta be Oasis!

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

James: Live shows, without a doubt. It’s a cliché thing to say but it genuinely is better than any drug you can ever do. The buzz is unbeatable and we can’t wait to get back playing some shows. For some reason as a band attract nutters and as a result there’s always a funny story to be told…

Luke: The travelling with the band is always my favourite part and the people we meet.

Dion: Playing live shows! There’s no other feeling that can compare.

And what is the most frustrating part?

James: It’s a close toss-up between sound technicians and other musicians.

Tyler: AND Lugging the gear around and packing it down afterwards. There’s NOTHING worse… and middle class musicians that do nothing but whine about how bad their life is.

Dion: It’s gotta be packing up and down all my drums into venues – drum tech anyone?

Luke: Waiting around…

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Luke: If you don’t try nothing will happen.

James: The holes in guitars are actually meant to be filled with dried meats and treats to feed the drummer when they play in time…

Tyler: Where’s ya chorus dred?
