al coffey drops heartfelt new single

London-based LGBTQ+ artist al coffey has shared his poignant new single 'nice meeting you, again', a cinematic and emotionally rich offering inspired by his relationship with his grandfather and the heartbreaking effects of dementia.

Written alongside producer GETH, the track pairs delicate piano, subtle synth textures and atmospheric production with coffey's intimate vocal performance, creating a heartfelt reflection on memory, love and loss. Capturing the pain of being forgotten by someone you could never forget, 'nice meeting you, again' balances deeply personal storytelling with accessible, understated pop melodies that linger long after the final note.

The release marks another compelling chapter for one of London's most exciting emerging LGBTQ+ voices. After completing a Master's in Songwriting at Tileyard Education in 2021, coffey has steadily built a name for himself through support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, alongside praise from the likes of Wonderland, Earmilk and The Line of Best Fit. Away from his solo work, he's performed with House Gospel Choir at major events including Chaka Khan's Meltdown Festival, ITV's National Lottery New Year's Eve broadcast and the Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while also collaborating with Ofenbach, Adriano Desire and michelangelo.mp3.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, coffey says: "I still go and sit with him and listen to the same stories over and over, about his childhood dog, working on the Tyneside docks, falling in love. When I was younger, he used to tell me the same stories, but he knew who I was then. Now he often says 'nice meeting you' when I leave. The song became my response to that. Although you forgot my name, it was nice meeting you, again."
