Beach House - 'Thank Your Lucky Stars'

7/10

Arriving just two months after their latest release, 'Depression Cherry', Beach House have now released their fifth studio album 'Thanks You Lucky Stars'. Although recorded at the same time as 'Depression Cherry', the band have stressed that this record is not a b-side or continuation of their last album but a whole new work in itself. And from the initial listen, you can clearly hear the difference between the two albums.

While 'Depression Cherry' held more of the traditional Beach House sound, 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' seems a little more woozy than they usually go for. Acting much like a lullaby, this new work is far more subdued than their usual material and makes for an altogether humbled release. Keeping simplicity the focus of the album, 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' aims to be the autumn to 'Depression Cherry''s summer and creates a much more sombre result in the process.

While Beach House fans will still enjoy this almost immediate new full-length, it doesn't have the same energy as its predecessor and will probably be more overlooked. Yet it still shows a great level of songwriting and professionalism throughout.
