Danny & The Champions Of The World - 'What Kind Of Love'

8/10

Despite only forming in 2007, London-based soul outfit Danny & The Champions Of The World have already proven themselves to be one of the most prolific bands in the UK. Since delivering their self-titled debut album in 2008, the group have gone on to produce another three full-length records and a live album. And now onto their fifth studio release, it seems that this collective have found their chosen pace and focused it to a tee.

Sounding like Rod Stewart fronting a northern soul band, 'What Kind Of Love' aims to collate the various emotions that come with loving your fellow man or woman. It flips between the joyous, uplifting sound of passion and smooth, heart-breaking ballads that help define what feeling this new release is trying to emit. Always positive in its approach, 'What Kind Of Love' is essentially a soppy romantic album that you can get up and dance to.

While we wouldn't have expected anything less from a band that has already proven itself time and time again, this new release seems to reach the zenith of their sound so far. It is well-produced and keeps the listener interested from start to finish, exactly what any album should aim to be.
