Jessie Ware - 'Glasshouse'

8/10

A lot has changed for Jessie Ware since her last studio album. Writing and recording this new full-length while pregnant with her first child, you would certainly expect a new frame of mind from the singer about what she wants her music to represent in this new phase of her life. Thankfully that is exactly what we have with 'Glasshouse', a record that shows of the more mature side of her sound and sees her at her best to date.

It is clear that this is a very different Jessie Ware album from the opening track 'Midnight', a thumping and anthemic soul record that sees her reach notes we weren't even sure were possible. This new intention has created a ripple effect throughout the whole release, leaving each track encouraged to create a real sense of grandeur and ultimately give Ware the chance to show off pipes that we were never sure she actually had.

Not to say that other Jessie Ware albums seem flat by comparison, but this is certainly much more than we thought she was going to return with. With her stellar production remaining intact, 'Glasshouse' sees her far more comfortable in this space and opens up a new side to her that we have seldom seen before.
