Lucy Rose - 'Something's Changing'

7/10

After releasing her highly-praised second studio album 'Work It Out' back in 2015, Lucy Rose ended up embarking on an unusual tour of Latin America last year. Essentially asking fans to set up their own shows for her, the frontwoman spent nearly two months traveling across the continent, resulting in the short film also called 'Something's Changing'. This record is essentially the result of her time abroad as she aims to create a sound that is more culturally diverse than what we are used to.

What is first noticeable about this new material is just how stripped-back it all is. And although Lucy Rose isn't best known for bold and explosive productions, this record certainly sees a more humbled singer at the helm, delivering one soothing serenade after another. Sticking many to her core instrument of guitar (although the occasional piano does make an appearance), 'Something's Changing' does prove itself to be a very succinct release that usually keeps its head above water.

Essentially what we have here is a record that has been conceived out of a huge life-changing experience, and while its best not to think there is something to be a huge South American influence on this release musically, it has clearly been inspired by its people and given Rose the perfect frame of mind to write her music through.
