Mahalia announces new EP 'Luvergirl'

UK R&B star Mahalia has officially announced her upcoming EP 'Luvergirl', dropping on the 15th August, and it might be her most liberated work yet. Spanning seven tracks and co-written with the likes of Eric IV, BenjiFlow, and Savannah Jada, the project was written between the UK, Jamaica, and St Vincent, and reflects Mahalia stepping into a new era, one defined by confidence, clarity, and cultural reconnection.

'Luvergirl' marks a return to Mahalia’s Jamaican roots, her first time tapping into that sonic space since 2019’s 'Simmer' (her Beenie Man-inspired banger with Burna Boy). This time, it goes deeper. After a month-long creative trip to the Caribbean earlier this year, Mahalia immersed herself in the local music scenes, reconnecting with family and finding new rhythm in old ground. “It was really important for me to be able to tap into that world,” she says. “And it’s quite special to hear my voice in that way.”

The EP arrives off the back of her new single 'Instructions', a bass-heavy slow-burner with a visual directed by Douglas Reddan, pairing commanding vocals with sultry, empowered energy.

Mahalia describes the 'Luvergirl' era as one rooted in feminine agency, a kind of romantic reckoning on her own terms. “It feels like the era of girls just taking back a bit of our fucking control… not being slut-shamed, not being taken the piss out of,” she says. “In all the songs, really and truly, it’s me telling these men what to do in a sense.”
