Legendary Nigerian musician William Onyeabor has passed away, aged 70, due to a short illness, according to a statement on Facebook.

The influential musician released a string of electronic funk albums between 1977-1985, although his international fame was only realised a few years ago, when he released his compilation album 'Who Is William Onyeabor?' in 2013.
