There’s a quiet defiance running through Selma Juhran’s debut EP 'Ruin By Design', a sense that vulnerability, when fully embraced, can be just as forceful as any declaration of strength. Across this five-track offering, Juhran prefers to linger in the in-between spaces: where memory blurs, where longing stretches out indefinitely, and where the weight of expectation begins to fracture something deeper within.

At its core, this is an EP shaped by emotional contradiction. The writing leans into themes of isolation and the ache of looking backwards, but it never feels stagnant. Lines feel diaristic without becoming insular, capturing that universal tension between wanting to hold on and knowing you can’t.

What makes the project particularly compelling is the way she mirrors these themes in the sound design. The arrangements often begin with bare, almost skeletal moments where her voice sits exposed against minimal instrumentation. Small inflections carry weight, and the restraint becomes its own kind of intensity. When the production thickens around her, it frames that voice, allowing the contrast to hit even harder.
