Aberrant Kingdom - 'AK'

7/10

Despite only arriving with their breakthrough debut single 'NOATW' earlier this year, US outfit Aberrant Kingdom have actually been crafting their distinctive direction as far back as 2008. Taking cues from the grunge era and blending it with some brilliantly infectious grooves as often as possible, the band have taken their sound around their local area, honing it for when the rest of the world comes knocking. And after the rousing response to their recent effort 'Bygone Conflict', they are now cementing their dynamic legacy to date with the release of their long-awaited debut album 'AK', a record that brings together the best of their aesthetic to date.

Channelling more of that raw and driven alt-rock energy they have been synonymous for over the years, 'AK' looks to break out of the gates with style and aplomb throughout. Taking this brilliantly rugged approach to production in order to give their killer riffs these wonderfully textured tones, their first full-length establishes them as one of the more adventurous names on the rise right now. Clearly a labour of love for the group, Aberrant Kingdom are looking to make their mark on the world stage with some fresh and exciting anthems here.

It may have been a long time coming given the time they have spent together already, but 'AK' feels just as spontaneous and creative as any band looking to emerge right now. Brimming with this fun and frantic flair from start to finish, they are definitely ones to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
