Amelie Patterson returns with new single 'The War'

After establishing herself with a scattering of highly-praised efforts these last few years, Canadian singer-songwriter Amelie Patterson returns to deliver her first piece of new material in two years, the alluring new single 'The War'.

Conjuring more of that broad and immersive aesthetic she has cultivated for herself since she first emerged, 'The War' makes for an incredibly rich and passionate listen. Described as "a song about recognising the invisible struggles that others are going through, and finding your own place as you lend support for a battle you can’t fight", this rousing new release marks one of her most captivating offerings to date.

Adding about the track, she said, “'The War' was written as one side of an incredibly difficult conversation to have. It’s a plea, asking a loved one to stay and fight through the darkness. It’s a very helpless situation watching someone suffer when all you can offer is your love and support. No one has to battle against mental illness alone, but taking the steps to address it has to come from within; and that can be its own war for both parties. Over the years of performing this song so many people have shared beautiful and heartbreaking stories with me, and my only wish for this song is that it continues to connect with people and their own experiences. I wrote this song for anyone who needs it and for anyone who has ever had to ask a loved one to ‘fight the war’.”

While these last few years have certainly seen her deliver a bold and shimming array of gems, 'The War' still manages to stand out within her mesmerising catalogue to date. With such a firm and emotive approach to her songwriting throughout, she is definitely one to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
