ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 149 Skinny Living

With technology making it easier for bands to record, promote and sell their own music, a DIY ethos has emerged as a strong alternative to signing through a major label. And for Wakefield’s Skinny Living, it looks like all their hard work and graft is about to pay off.

Having originally formed back in 2013, Skinny Living have been very much in control of their own career trajectory. Self-financing a number of tours as well as their last studio EP ‘3’, the band have now settled on a deal with heavyweights RCA Records as they prepare to release their next four-track release.

The band’s latest single ‘Why’ has been described as a cross between Bill Withers and Paolo Nutini, creating a soul-filled indie hybrid that uses soaring vocals and elegant piano playing to give us one of the biggest and boldest tracks of the year so far.

‘Why’ is taken from their forthcoming EP ‘6’, which is due to arrive sometime later this year. Check out the official video for the new single in the player below.
