ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 218 Hayes & Y

With band members that hail from as far afield as Bulgaria and Finland before settling in Manchester, Hayes & Y collect their influences to create their very own sound. Taking cues from the disco and psych-pop world, the four-piece have already begun to make a name for themselves with previous singles 'Over' and 'The Feeling' as they now return with their latest track 'Blue'.

With a catchy Nile Rodgers-esque hook, 'Blue' manages to trend that fine line between modern pop and classic funk, giving it a contemporary yet familiar feel. Gathering comparisons to the likes of Jungle and Kool & The Gang, Hayes & Y to set to cement themselves as one of this country's best new acts of the year.

Speaking about their latest creation, the band said, "Blue is the first in a series of songs we've named after colours. It is about loneliness, insanity and imaginary friends. "Blue" is a song about longing, masquerading as a dance track. The most ambitious work we've done so far, challenging ourselves and hopefully, our audience."
