ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No.534 - Pig Pen

Born from longtime friendship and a deep-rooted love for the hardcore scene that raised them, Pig Pen have officially announced their debut album 'Mental Madness', out on the 27th June via renowned label Flatspot Records.

The band—featuring Matty Matheson (FX’s The Bear) on vocals, Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire, Dooms Children), Daniel Romano, Ian Romano, and Tommy Major—pull no punches with their first single 'Mental Mentality'. A furious blitz of stomping rhythms and distorted riffs, the track is a gut-punch of catharsis as Matheson screams, “I have the mental madness. I’m sick. I’m sick. I’m sick.” The accompanying music video brings the intensity full circle.

Forged through shared playlists and late-night jam sessions, the band wrote the album’s ten tracks in a single day and recorded them the next. 'Mental Madness' is a DIY effort in spirit and execution, produced and self-recorded by the band before being mixed by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Cold World) and mastered by Grammy-winner Alan Douches.

From its gritty breakdowns to rock’n’roll swagger, 'Mental Madness' blends ‘80s hardcore aesthetics with raw emotional release. Its lyrics explore inner chaos with a rare mix of intensity and soul. “No matter how good or bad your life is, you can still hate yourself,” says Matheson. “This record is about feeling everything—light and dark—and finding power through it.”
