ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No.544 - Chest

Norwich-born, London-based indie-rock risers Chest have officially arrived with 'MACHINE', a razor-edged anthem that captures the modern malaise of hyperconnectivity, and marks a bold introduction to one of the UK’s most compelling new acts.

Following a string of sold-out headline shows and support slots with The Lounge Society, Bilk, and PleasureInc, Chest are building serious momentum. With early backing from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, their latest offering, produced and mixed by Thomas Coath (Sam Fender, Pale Waves), cements their status as a band ready for the big stage.

“The lyrics explore that sense of not quite being comfortable with it all,” the band explain. “‘The Machine’ represents the digital web of technology that permeates every part of our lives. There’s a sense of escalating panic… a manic obsession that the narrative voice is struggling to escape.”

Directed by M. Forsyth, the track’s accompanying video matches the disorientation with frenetic visuals, mirroring the song’s themes of technological overload and fractured selfhood.

Vocalist Joel Reader adds: “For inspiration, I tend to look inward… putting a spotlight on the darker corners of my psyche. These songs are an exercise in letting those parts breathe — turning something self-destructive into something creatively empowering.”
