Genre-resistant electronic duo Aux Volta return with ‘Generic Gazelle’, their latest single for Sub5k Records and another brilliantly unpredictable addition to their increasingly strange universe.
Following June’s ‘Ouroborus’, the new track initially presents something approaching club music before rapidly dismantling that expectation. Pulsing electronics and a Four Tet-like immediacy gradually give way to fractured jungle rhythms, restless percussion and darker atmospheric passages, with shades of Burial, The Chemical Brothers and 65daysofstatic emerging from the collision.
It's another indication of Aux Volta’s appetite for electronic music that refuses to behave itself. Rather than remaining locked into one rhythmic idea, ‘Generic Gazelle’ continually mutates, moving between dancefloor momentum and more abrasive, experimental territory.
