Billy Nomates announces new album 'Metalhorse'

Billy Nomates, the project of Bristol-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tor Maries, has announced her third studio album 'Metalhorse', set for release on the 16th May via Invada Records. The announcement comes alongside the release of new single 'The Test', which premiered on BBC Radio 6 Music with Lauren Laverne.

A propulsive, heartland rock-driven track, 'The Test' is charged with defiance and resilience, powered by a deep, humming bassline, jagged piano interjections, and Tor’s increasingly commanding vocal presence. With lyrics like “A heart is an engine”, the song builds into a chorus that feels both rebellious and cathartic.

As the first song written for 'Metalhorse', 'The Test' embodies the turmoil and triumphs of the last 18 months, a period of uncertainty that has seen Billy Nomates persevere against the odds. Maries describes it as a spiritual moment, saying:

“It’s working at something against the odds and feeling like someone’s helping you from the other side, and if they see you, that’s the test. I really feel that when we’re playing it live. Like, with everything that’s going on, I can’t believe this is surviving.”
