Bruno Mars - '24K Magic'

7/10

When both Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars made a sensational comeback in the form of 'Uptown Funk' back in 2014, it shook the contemporary music world to its core. Not only was it one of the biggest songs of all time, it managed to redesign the popular music landscape with other artists looking to take their inspirations from the 70s and 80s era. With this in mind, Bruno Mars to delivers his latest full-length '24K Magic', a record that lives and breathes funk.

While it would be easy to dismiss Mr. Mars as simply tapping into a nostalgia that many will find refreshing on this new release, his energy and charisma on this album is so palpable, you'd think he'd been doing this his whole life. It seems he has left the days of heartbreaking RnB behind him as this album lets off one high-energy and likeable track after the next. And while it is still wrapped up in the glossy production he has become used to, it certainly pays a great homage to a forgotten beat.

Still, it does come off as a very 2-dimentional release, as the majority of work doesn't really scream originality but would you have expected anything else from Bruno Mars. This is a fun record and could probably see him grow even larger in popularity.
