Chorusing - 'Half Mirror'

8/10

When emerging producer and artist Matthew O’Connell aka Chorusing first introduced us to his spectral plain on his debut single 'Watching The Beams' earlier this year, it was clear from the start that he had something very special to present. His love and admiration for all things Moog, as well as a strong connection to the more ethereal nature of modern electronic music, led him down a warm and sweeping path, filled with subtle eccentricities and bubbling prowess. Now he delivers his much-hyped debut studio album 'Half Mirror', a record that looks to showcase his proficient direction throughout.

Despite only clocking in at thirty minutes in length with eight tracks to its name, 'Half Mirror' still makes for a wonderfully passionate and compelling listen. Only occasionally using his voice to tie his material together, this new collection is more about exploring the rich and soaring soundscapes he has compiled over the years. Originally described as a cross between avant-garde electronica and comforting folk harmonies, he has created this incredibly inviting and captivating array of compositions that are more about luring you in than blowing you away.

There is something magical about the way he has been able to create a release with very little fanfare that still manages to hold your attention. 'Half Mirror' is a rare and shimmering addition to the new music arena this year, something that intrigues the senses, while also building a unique and distinct vision from start to finish.
