Paisley indie-rock outfit The Cuts make a brilliantly energetic return with ‘Fire with fire’, the first release since reuniting and an infectious opening taste of their forthcoming EP.
This new single captures a band rediscovering exactly why they wanted to make music together in the first place. Neil Walker, Kieren Docherty and James Robertson originally formed The Cuts years ago before heading in different directions, eventually reconvening in 2025 and bringing drummer Craig Brown into the fold.
Written by Walker as the reunion reignited his appetite for songwriting, the track combines punchy indie-pop hooks with a playful streak and enough grit to prevent things becoming overly polished. There are shades of the exhilarating mid-2000s indie explosion, but The Cuts are clearly having too much fun to spend their time looking backwards.
Catchy, spirited and refreshingly unpretentious, ‘Fire with fire’ is a hugely enjoyable comeback and an exciting indication of what The Cuts have waiting on their upcoming EP.
