Darwin Deez- 'Double Down'

7/10

While he was no doubt one of the main indie darlings of 2009 with his hit single 'Radar Detector', Darwin Deez took a bit of a hiatus in the years after finding fame. Not one to rush his art though, the singer returned in 2013 for his second full-length outing 'Songs For Imaginative People', and now again with his latest studio album 'Double Down'. And from the start, it is clear that he hasn't lost that creative and catchy edge to his sound.

Even if you have only heard one of his songs, picking out a new one from a collection would be easy work. Darwin Deez has this incredibly distinctive sound that continues onto this new release. With his delicate voice and minimal guitar playing, 'Double Down' once again aims to display the New Yorkers insatiable presence with some incredibly likeable music. Not one to move on from a winning formula, this release will serve as a brilliant continuation for all Darwin Deez fans.

While his lack of adventure within his music can seem like a drawback, his songwriting is so coupled with this style, it probably wouldn't be worth listening to. 'Double Down' is more of the same but that's alright with us.
