The Daytime High - 'The Daytime High'

7/10

Ever since they first broke through with their vibrant debut single 'Reaper' back in 2022, Los Angeles-based outfit The Daytime High have always looked to inject a fresher and more immersive texture into their distinctive direction. Coupling that initial offering up with a string of wondrous offerings in the years since, the band have been quick to establish themselves as one of the more captivating additions to the new music scene. And with that buzz around them continuing to build, they are back once again to cement their vibrant legacy to date with their eagerly-awaited self-titled debut album, a record that explores more of that riveting direction of theirs.

Blending a heady mix of lofty production with a more purposeful tone as it plays, 'The Daytime High' makes for a dazzling introduction to their impactful sound so far. Taking cues from the full spectrum of the indie-rock genre, regularly harking back to those classic textures of the 70s and 80s as well, their initial full-length sits as one of the more absorbing we have heard so far this year. Making light work of its progressive appeal throughout, they are certainly looking to turn some heads with these mesmerising new endeavours.

While they have most definitely made a lasting mark these last few years, 'The Daytime High' perfectly showcases their masterful pursuits in recent times. Brimming with this confident and assured presence from beginning to end, they are certainly ones to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
