Art-pop collective This Is The Deep have announced their signing to 5dB Records and shared new single ‘Darkness and the Dawn’, the first taste of their forthcoming concept album 'Everything'.
Known for blending music, visual art and storytelling into one immersive world, the collective’s latest release introduces a colourful and cinematic new chapter. The track combines elements of psychedelic rock, chamber pop and orchestral folk, building from delicate piano and strings into a vibrant, uplifting arrangement filled with brass, layered instrumentation and rich vocal harmonies.
Accompanied by a new video, ‘Darkness and the Dawn’ opens the story of 'Everything' — a surreal journey following Dick Herman as he escapes the confines of his everyday life and enters a dreamlike world beneath the surface.
Speaking about the project, band leader Ranald Macdonald explains: “The song is a call to be held by and reconnect with Mother Nature. It comes from a place of feeling lost and stuck between two places, a past darkness and the dawning of a new day.”
Formed as a meeting point between music and visual creativity, This Is The Deep combine classic songwriting influences with a more experimental approach, drawing inspiration from artists including The Beach Boys, Leonard Cohen and Grizzly Bear.
