Delta Sleep - 'Twin Galaxies'

8/10

After forming back in 2010, Brighton-based four-piece Delta Sleep have been building their reputation and fanbase with a run of EPs and small releases, but now the outfit look to cement themselves in their chosen quarter of the math-rock crowd with their debut album 'Twin Galaxies'. While math-rock can at times seem like a formulaic genre, the difference between bands like Delta Sleep and any other imitators is the professionalism within their music.

It is no secret that this particular sub-genre of music requires expert musicianship and versatile songwriting, something Delta Sleep have in droves. But what helps 'Twin Galaxies' stand out is its diverse and engaging musical direction. Rather than just show off and aim to look the part of an impressive unit, the band have made the record extremely inviting and accessible throughout. Giving it real foresight and showing that these guys are more about creating a pleasant listening experience over self-indulgent expression.

'Twin Galaxies' is one of those rare albums that just the right balance of commercial appeal and purist intention that could lead any band on the path to success. With a little more attention from the music press, these guys could become a huge overnight success story.
