Donald Glover plans to retire Childish Gambino

While performing at the Governors Ball Music Festival over the weekend, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino announced that the show would be his last ever and ended his performance by saying, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”

Now after a few days to mull it over, Glover has now given some clarity over his comments stating that he is planning to retire the Childish Gambino moniker in exchange for new projects to come.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, the frontman said, “Like I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things and I always had a reason to be punk. Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at ‘Atlanta’ (His hit US TV show) as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio.”

He has yet to state what or when he is planning his next Childish Gambino record, but it already sounds like we should be in for a real treat.
