British-born, LA-based artist Emilie Reid dives headfirst into the dancefloor with ‘Prince of the Groove’, an ambitious new single that pushes her rapidly evolving sound into darker and more cinematic territory.
Written, arranged and produced entirely by the artist herself, the track revolves around a wonderfully moody bass-driven pulse, surrounded by sharp synth stabs, muscular drums and flashes of disco. There's an unmistakable affection for the shadowier corners of 80s pop and new wave, but her smoky, textured vocal gives ‘Prince of the Groove’ a character firmly of its own.
While her earliest material established an indie-pop foundation, ‘Prince of the Groove’ demonstrates just how quickly her production ambitions are expanding, with considerably greater layers, movement and confidence running through the arrangement.
