Field Music - 'Open Here'

8/10

After releasing their most commercially successful studio album 'Commontime' back in 2016, Field Music have been on the public's mind now more than ever. And while record sales may not be the big driver to produce more music in quick succession like they used to, it has clearly had a positive effect on the duo as their seventh full-length release 'Open Here' comes with an uplifting sense of ambition within it.

While Field Music hardly have a reputation for downbeat and low-key productions, this new LP sees them practically beaming with excitement on almost every track. Opening with the funk-filled 'Time In Joy', the pair have certainly looked to set up the listener with a dose of where this new record plans to go. From there, we are treated to lively collection on bouncing works which mix contemporary political commentary with an overall British disposition.

Yet despite this being their seventh studio album to date, it feels like they have rekindled a lot of passion within their sound this time around. We see them as a more well-rounded duo on this release and ultimately, showing that they are far from short of new and exciting ideas.
