Foster The People - 'Paradise State Of Mind'

7/10

When they first broke through with their widely-praised debut LP 'Torches' in 2011, there was no denying the impact Foster The People had on the international scene. With hits like 'Pumped Up Kicks', 'Helena Beat' and 'Houdini' all cementing their status as the next big thing on the rise, the years since proved a little harder to maintain as they released two much-loved records 'Supermodel' and 'Sacred Hearts Club' which didn't quite live up to their initial expectations. But after seven years away, they are now back with their long-awaited fourth studio album 'Paradise State Of Mind', a release that looks to rekindle that earlier fire.

Unlike what their more recent material looked to pursue, 'Paradise State Of Mind' is an unashamed pop record, brimming with a bright and glossy texture from start to finish. Adopting a more dancefloor-ready approach to their production this time around, their newest full-length finds them in a fun and lively guise, one that feels renewed as it plays. It may not have that instant grab-factor they have produced in the past, but still makes for a strong and confident listen from them.

Foster The People may be a long way from the renowned radio-friendly anthems of their past, but 'Paradise State Of Mind' feels like a solid continuation of their sound so far. Keeping the vibes high and the grooves more infectious than ever, they are looking to make a serious impact with this eagerly-awaited comeback.
