Getting To Know... Anne Reburn

Following on from the enormous success behind her previous shared offerings, LA-based singer and songwriter Anne Reburn has now returned to deliver her latest swoon 'Everywhere And Nowhere'.

Originally hailing from Oklahoma, 'Everywhere And Nowhere' sees her channel the folk roots of her homeland. Filled with a rich and dynamic aura, laid-back production, and her sugary sweet vocals at the helm, this new gem will sweep you off your feet from the very first chord.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and what has inspired her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Playing any instrument in front of people has always given me performance anxiety. I fell in love with dance and vocal music first, which don’t give me that kind of sweaty palms and shaky body!

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

I was a teenager in the late 2010s, so there was a wide range. I listened to everything on the “Now That’s What I Call Music” CDs, and songs by artists like All American Rejects and Avril Lavigne decorated my MySpace profile. I sang my heart out to Hannah Montana and got down to Low by Flo Rida at the middle school dance.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. It was on a cassette!

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Jesusland - Ben Folds.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I’m constantly writing fragments down in a notebook, which I pull out whenever I sit down to write. I usually write on the piano when I have the house to myself, but I love a good co-write too.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

The Knocks, C. Tangana, Stevie Wonder.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I don't know, but I hope they have backup dancers! Actually, can I open the show then jump in later as a backup dancer?

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Seeing other people connect with my songs. We've all had the experience of hearing a song that resonates with us on a deep and personal level, something we feel was written just for our circumstance. To have a song I've written do that for someone is an absolute honour.

And what is the most frustrating part?

After all of the time and effort that goes into releasing a song, the release day only lasts 24 hours!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Be yourself. It's cliché for a reason. There are many paths to success, and we each define success for ourselves. If we copy or compare, we'll get distracted from our own paths.
